Drink Where George Washington Drank

A living piece of American history on Main Street Warwick, pouring cold pints since the colonial era.

About Us

The floorboards at Baird's Tavern have a story to tell. George Washington passed through these walls, and Martha Washington spent the night here. That's not a marketing line borrowed from a history textbook. That's the actual, documented past of the building at 103 Main Street in Warwick, NY, and every barstool in the place carries that weight.

Step inside and you'll understand immediately why guests call it a museum you can drink in. The rooms have been painstakingly restored to honor the original structure, and a cabinet near the bar holds an array of pewter mugs, each one signed and claimed by a regular. The staff are the kind of people who remember your name and your order, which is exactly what a tavern this old should feel like.

With a 4.8-star rating across more than 250 reviews, Baird's has become the go-to spot locals bring their out-of-town guests, not because it's the flashiest place in the Hudson Valley, but because nothing else comes close to the atmosphere it delivers, especially on a warm summer evening when the whole place opens up and history just breathes.

What We Offer

Baird's runs a tight, intentional operation. The focus is the bar, the conversation, and the setting. Cold drafts and a rotating selection of beers are served in a space that doubles as one of the most atmospheric drinking rooms in the entire region. If craft options aren't your thing, the staff can point you in the right direction.

The summer patio experience is something regulars plan around. When the weather cooperates, the outdoor vibe at Baird's is genuinely unmatched in Warwick. It's the kind of place where a quick drink turns into a two-hour conversation without anyone noticing. Private gatherings and small events are a natural fit here, given the historic rooms and intimate layout.

Baird's is open Tuesday through Friday from 4 PM to midnight, Saturday until 1 AM, and Sunday from 2 to 9 PM. Monday is a day of rest. No reservations needed to pull up a stool, though if you're bringing a group, calling ahead is always a smart move.

"LOCAL GEM! Step into the history books. Have a beer where George Washington had a beer and his wife stayed overnight! An absolute must see for yourself and your out-of-town visitors. Baird’s was used during the Revolutionary War by local militia, who also used the attic for musket drills when the weather was bad. Does not serve food. So you can bring your own snacks or call them about the Food Truck Schedule. A super unique opportunity to step into the past. Highly recommend."

"A wonderful place to have a drink, the staff are friendly and the atmosphere hospital. The rooms have been extremely well restored. A cabinet sits full of Pewter mugs that you can sign up for - and have your name on it - for a small fee. Lovely light rooms with bay windows that let the light in"

"Historical landmark converted into a local pub with a cool atmosphere and friendly service. A really cool place. And they have something extra that I have never seen before. They have a mug club. Personalized mugs are kept at the location for you and you alone for a fee. Every time you go, the bartender serves you in your own mug. They also have mug nights and mug owners get a discount."

"Beautiful historic tavern on main street in Warwick. The tavern has a rich history during colonial time period and was visited by George Washington. Inside the decor reflects this period and has plenty of seating areas in a variety of settings including outdoor seating. There were about 8 or so beers on tap when we went and the service was excellent. Will be visiting again when I'm in town."
